New Jersey racer Todd Stavac racing his Action Yamaha/Sun Cycle/MBR Yamaha in the 450 Consolation Race at Mt. Morris in 2007. When I was going to the nationals as a photographer I always tried to shoot a few laps of the Consi race because those guys put a lot of effort into racing the nationals. People tend to forget when they see 40 riders lined up for the start of the main, about that same number of riders came to the national and were packing up by then because they didn’t qualify. So by the end of the season there are literally hundreds of riders who came and gave it their all and missed the cut. Funny thing is when I shot Consi races I was amazed at how fast the riders who didn’t make the main event are, which is to say there are a lot of fast pro-level motocross racers out there. Certainly more than 40 on any given weekend. (Larry Lawrence photo)
