Epic photo alert! This is the start of a heat race at the famed Charity Newsies benefit AMA Grand National at the Ohio State Fairground in Columbus in June of 1970. In flat track crazy Ohio, the Charity Newsies always drew massive crowds and this year it was especially true as you can see in the photo. On the line getting ready to launch are (from the inside) Mark Brelsford (87), Jim Rice (24), Frank Gillespie (23Y), Eddie Mulder (12), Gene Romero (3) and Douglas Showler (41). Romero went on to score the heat race victory on his Triumph over Brelsford and Rice. (Ed Youngblood photo)
