James Randolph and Tiger Sohwa Race to the Flag at Phoenix (1993)

A great capture of James Randolph (54) and Tiger Sohwa (41) coming out of the final turn at Phoenix International Raceway during the AMA 750cc Supersport racer there in February of 1993. It was the AMA Pro debut for Randolph, a young up-and-coming Northern California road racer who was embarking on what would be a successful pro racing career. Sohwa had already been on of the leading road racers in Japan. He finished third in that country’s TT-F1 (Superbike) Championship in ’91. Even though he raced a one-off event in the Daytona 200 in ’92, Sohwa too was making his full-time racing debut in America, riding for Muzzy Kawasaki. Tiger used the power of his Muzzy Kawasaki ZX-7R to out motor Randolph’s GSX-R750 to the checkered flag putting him just inside the top-10 with a 10th. Randolph took 11th in his pro debut.
