Les Johnson Wins at Pocono (1973)

Les Johnson (in leathers) celebrates his victory, alongside Miss Koni Pocono, in the novice AMA Road Race National at Pocono in August of 1973. Les chased down and passed early leader and heavy favorite Jay Levingston and then Jay dumped it trying to repass Les. Les raced a Longevity Racing Yamaha. That’s sponsor/racer John Long wearing the hat on the right. It was also a great weekend for Long on track. He won both the Junior National over Denny Varnes and Mike Clarke, and the 250cc Combined race over Kenny Roberts and Yvon DuHamel. Not bad John! 📷Gary Van Voorhis
