Travis Pastrana on Fujichrome Velvia (2000)

Mitch Friedman sent me another good-sized batch of his photos to scan and it’s mostly Fujichrome Velvia slides from the late ’90s and early 2000s. That film was so good, but so expensive. Mitch told me this morning how he was able to shoot so much of the stuff. He works in the movie industry and at that time he had a friend in the industry who happened to work or rep for Fuji, so he got free film! A lot of pro photographers switched to digital when Nikon came out with its D1 in 2000, but those early digital images don’t hold up well against good film of that time. It really wasn’t until the second generation of Canon and third generation of Nikon DSLR cameras in the mid-2000s when digital was finally up to par with film. Here’s a shot of Travis Pastrana taken by Mitch at the 2000 St. Louis AMA Supercross. Just check out the color and detail. Even after being digitized the images are stunning. đź“·Mitch Friedman  #travispastrana #stlouissupercross #supercross #amasupercross #suzuki #fujivelvia #mitchfriedman
