Jeff Farmer shocked the racing establishment in March of 1990 when he won the highly-coveted Daytona 600 Supersport race on his privately entered Yamaha. Farmer beat the factories that year by way of some very creative interpretations of the AMA Supersport rulebook. The team squeezed in the fairing from each side and pushed down the stock windscreen into the fairing to greatly reduce the front profile of the bike. They also ran high pressure on very hard Yokohama tires to give him more speed on the banking. Those tricks and many more made Farmer’s Yamaha an untouchable rocket ship on the banking and tri-oval of Daytona International Speedway and he beat all the factory-backed Yamahas and Kawasakis that day to take the surprise win.

The rule bending was amazing back in those days. Some very creative and some just blatant but not caught.
Some great times in American road racing. The big contingency days brought out the best riders, tuners and cheaters.
