Last Lap Battle (Phoenix AMA Superbike – 1997)

This Henny Ray Abrams photo shows the last lap of round one of the AMA Superbike race at Phoenix International Raceway on Feb. 16, 1997 with Tommy Hayden (Kawasaki ZX-7R) chasing Miguel Duhamel (Honda RC45), Doug Chandler (Kawasaki ZX-7R) and Tripp Nobles (Harley-Davidson VR1000). Duhamel and Chandler were battling for second, while Hayden and Nobles were going a lap down on the final go around in their battle for ninth. Mat Mladin won the race on the Ferracci Ducati and Duhamel got around Chandler to score second. Nobles also held off Hayden’s factory Muzzy Kawasaki to take ninth.
