Aldana Hauls Down His Honda Superbike at Laguna Seca (1983)

David Aldana is hard on the binders aboard his factory-supported Honda VF750 Interceptor Superbike at the AMA Superbike race at Laguna Seca in 1983. It was the first year that AMA Superbike went to the 750cc rule and Honda responded with the potent VF750. Honda gave the first V-Four Superbike a good push. In addition to the main factory team of Mike Baldwin and Steve Wise, it also supported satellite riders Fred Merkel, David Aldana, Sammy McDonald, John Bettencourt and Roberto Pietri. The Hondas were superior to most of the other bikes out there and five out of the top six riders in the final ’83 standings were VF750 mounted. Aldana best results on the Honda came when he scored a podium at Daytona and then a fourth at Talladega. He unfortunately also suffered a slew of mechanicals and ended up 12th in the final standings that season.
