Wes Cooley on the Kawasaki KR1000 during practice for the 1983 Daytona 200. The AMA F1 machine utilized an ’82 Kawasaki Superbike engine. Wes was the only Kawasaki factory entry and qualified 6th, putting him on the second row. He ran near the front early in the race, but the motor blew on the second lap, oiled down the bike’s rear tire and put Cooley on the ground with a broken collarbone. (Michael Pons photo)
