What an epic photo! Early motorcycle racing star Jim Davis, who was 100 years old when this photo was taken, waves the green flag for Ed Kretz Jr. during a vintage racing reunion weekend at Del Mar in 1996. Note the gentleman in the blazer in the background is longtime AMA National Starter Duke Pennell (who probably took over the position when Jim Davis retired from it). Duke, Ed Jr. and Jim are all Motorcycle Hall of Famers. (Dan Mahony photo)

  1. This photo is so COOL! Duke Pennel was my great friend and Duke and Jim Davis were Best friends! Mr. Jim Davis was still driving his car at 100 years old!
    Ed Kretz Jr. is on his Father’s Indian racing motorcycle that WON the First Daytona 200 in 1937 ? All of these great men were good friends with my great friend Mr. Al Wilcox who finished Third in his first Daytona 100 (1948?) with 150 Novices starting the 100 mile race On the Beach!
    Mr. Ed Kretz Jr. presented me with Al Wilcox’s AMA Hall of Fame Ring in 2012 in Las Vegas NV. Al Wilcox worked with me at Motorcycle Xcitement! until He passed away in 2011 at 92 years old.
    Al Wilcox was one of my Best friends!
    May the Lord Bless and Keep these Legends until we meet again.❤️✌️🏁
