Steve Eklund Gets Great Heat Race Start at Indy Mile (1984)

Steve Eklund (8 ) gets the quick start on his Gardner Racing Harley-Davidson XR750 in a heat race for the Sunday Indy Mile in August of 1984. Filing in behind Eklund are Lance Jones (23), defending AMA Grand National Champ Randy Goss (1), Dan Bennett (85Q) and the rest of the field. Jones drafted by Hank Scott on the last lap of the main straight to win the qualifying heat. (Rich Chenet photo)
