John Walton’s Wild Crash at the Hardrock GNCC (1999)

A dramatic shot of the start of the Vet 30+ A class at the Hardrock GNCC in Fairmont, WV in July of 1999. John Walton (581) from New Jersey has gotten his Yamaha all kinds of crossed up. John charged into the first turn and ran out of room banging off Jeff Murgel (38) and then got sideways and pivoted off his front wheel. Tony Taraborrelli is dealing with the rear wheel of John’s Yamaha suddenly in his lap. Check out Syd Loveday (60) on the inside keeping his concentration as he shoots his Kawasaki to the inside. Troy Schlereth (53) and the rest of the pack are looking for a clean way around. Also visible are Jim Maltba (186), Thomas Asher (216), John Grimm (69) and Richard Burbick (36). The good news is John picked himself up and finished 8th in his class that day. (Cycle News photo)
