In the rugged 1983 Barstow to Vegas race, Eddie Lawson stood out in his red Dainese/Marlboro jumpsuit aboard a Yamaha TT600—far from his usual 500cc GP machine. The reigning ABC Wide World of Sports Superbikers champ and future Grand Prix world champion finished 128th, joking, “It almost killed me… I should’ve died out there a couple of times!” Eddie was forced to improvise a makeshift hose clamp fix to his footpeg, and his bosses at Yamaha who didn’t know Eddie entered the race? “They’ll probably kill me when they find out.” Pure Lawson grit.
