Jeff Ward and Keith Bowen Battle at San Diego Supercross (1986)

The San Diego Supercross is happening tonight, so I thought it would be appropriate to look back at the San Diego Supercross 38 years ago. In 1986 Rick Johnson was on his way to victory, but briefly there was a great battle for second between defending series champ Jeff Ward (No. 1) on his Kawasaki and Yamaha mounted Keith Bowen (No. 9). Here Wardy gets the inside line on Bowen. In the background you can also see David Bailey (No. 6). Ward gradually pulled away from Bowen to earn the runner-up sport. Bowen rounded out the podium finishers. Bailey ended up fifth. (Mitch Friedman photo)
