Lawson and Rainey in the Florida Swamps (1982)

It’s been a red-letter day here at the Rider Files head office. A couple of scanners humming along. I preserved just shy of 500 historic racing images today, including some fantastic color slides by Mitch Friedman from 2001 Anaheim I, the San Jose Mile ’89, the Ascot TT ’86 and a big vintage MX meet from Glen Helen in ’99. Then there were some beautiful black & white images from the lens of Kit Palmer from the 1989 AMA Motocross season, including a slew of photos from Lake Sugar Tree and Troy, Ohio. And finally, some rare B&W shots by Gary Van Voorhis from the first year the AMA Road Racing Championships visited Road America in 1980. All that and the Facebook page hit the 9000 Followers mark this afternoon. AND NOW THIS, just as I’m ready to call it a day, more Gary V images from the Moroso AMA Superbike event in 1982 and how about this gem? From the days when teammates had to share a pit bike, it’s greats Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey, who were Kawasaki Superbike teammates at the time, exploring the grounds at Moroso, most likely trying to find some gators in the track’s swamps! Just a great day of going back in time and enjoying and preserving the history of our sport. Have a great evening. đź“·Gary Van Voorhis
