I just love the composition of this David Lutz photo of Donny Schmit racing a factory CCM C25 at the Hangtown round of the 1995 Sound of Thunder Motocross Series, held in conjunction with the AMA Motocross National that weekend. Schmit seems to be guiding the CCM into a sea of banners, the track making several 180-degree turns and coming back on itself in this section. Schmit went on to win the race and eventually the Sound of Thunder MX Championship that season. Sadly, it would mark Donny’s final championship. He passed away in January of 1996 from aplastic anemia.
