In this excellent photo by veteran photographer Tom Riles, Ben Spies backs it in as he corners his Yoshimura Suzuki GSXR1000 ahead of teammate Mat Mladin and Kawasaki’s Tommy Hayden during the Sunday race at the Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., in May of 2006. Spies went on to win the race and tie the then AMA Superbike record of six consecutive race wins. Miguel Duhamel established the mark, winning six in a row in 1995.
