Grattan Style Check

Here’s a series of rider shots from the “bowl” turn at Grattan during a WERA regional race in August of 1987, shot by photographer Greg Sickmeier. Check out the contrasting cornering styles by each rider. I identified nearly all the riders except for a few where I just list bike number. If you know who the riders who aren’t ID’d are let me know in the comment section.

  1. Those early GPZ550’s (looks like an ’82/83)didn’t have much spring, even with the preload cranked all the way up. Nice and cushy for an endurance race though…

  2. Put my name in for rider 613! Really brings back the memories. Wish I still had that bike, too. Bought it from Gene Burcham shortly before this race. Was still a rookie but the bike made me look good and took me to the C Superbike GNF that year. It was a screamer!

  3. Got it Tim. Thanks. Man C Super Novice was loaded at the GNF that year. Mike Smith, Fabian Cortez, Alan Bertagnoli, Rick Kirk, Russ Moffitt and David Clyde! Whoa.
