In the top photo Russell Moffitt races his Honda 500 Interceptor at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway in March of 1987. In ’87 Moffitt was one of the fastest novice riders in WERA. I remember him and Fabian Cortez having a couple of great battles later that season at Roebling Road (bottom photo) – Moffitt now on a Honda CBR600 and Cortez on a Yamaha FZR600. Moffitt’s bike was a bit faster and he came out on top in both the WERA C Production and C Superbike Novice races over Cortez. Cortez cameback later and beat out Moffitt for the final podium spot on the C Production final in the WERA GNF at Road Atlanta, Cortez finishing third behind David Clyde and Mike Smith.

Moffitt (128) came to Roebling Road a few months after the shot above at Talladega and had a Honda 600 Hurricane. Here he battles with Fabian Cortez in a WERA C Prodution Novice race. Moffitt topped Cortez in two classes that day. (Larry Lawrence photo)
