The early 1980s were a time for major innovation in helmet design. Full-face models became the norm and the race was on to make the most striking designs. Simpson had a big hit with its Darth Vadar model. Then Shoei struck back with its Z-100 styled by famous auto designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. In the ad Shoei even takes a dig at the Simpson helmet saying – “Not everyone wants to look like Darth Vadar”. The Z-100 became a major success for Shoei and helped that company to become one of the leading helmet makers.

The Shoei Z-100 designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and introduced in the early 1980s.
For you camera buffs, Giugiaro designed Nikon camera too.

I quite literally owe my continued existence to the Shoei Z-100. It was a great helmet.
