Solmax Racing was one of the leading WERA National Endurance teams of the mid-to-late 1980s. The Georgia-based team was strong even before picking up a young first-year expert named Scott Russell. This photo was probably from 1985 at Grattan Raceway with Terry Bailey riding. I believe this was the season before the team got Russell. Solmax, the company that sponsored the team, made umbrellas and easy-ups with a special material that cut out harmful ultraviolet rays, yet allowed its user to still get a tan.

This photo was taken during the 1986 Grattan WERA Endurance Race . I rode with Terry on the Solmax Racing Team in 1985 and 1986. The track had recently been repaved and was very slick on that hot summer day. Later that year, Terry and I won the overall endurance race at Hallet, Oklahoma on that production FZ750 against Team Hammer. At the end of the 1986 season I retired and Scott Russell took my place.
