Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy McGrath share words before the start of the second moto at the Steel City National in 2004. Carmichael was just about to wrap up his second perfect season of being undefeated in an entire AMA Motocross season. McGrath was making a one-off comeback race just for fun. It was a great moment in the history of the sport to have two of the legends in American motocross racing on the track at the same time. The fans loved it and appreciated seeing McGrath again in an outdoor national a full seven years after he’d retired from racing motocross full time.
