Two of the brainiacs of the AMA Grand National Championship — Zeeland, Michigan’s Brett Pankey leads Michael Radley, of Coeymans Hollow, N.Y., down the front straightaway during a Grand National Heat race at Beulah Park in Grove City, Ohio in August of 2009. Pankey graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. As an amateur Radley won the Fast Brain Award for his excellent grades. Radley spent his summers racing and attending college at New York State University at Oneonta during the off season.

Ha, ha. Right you are John. It’s great to have riders who go to college and get an education. It’s nearly impossible to get a decent job these days without a degree. I also applaud Brett and Michael.

Greg Tysor was the first racer I knew personally to get a college degree. I never told him but, I thought it was way cool.
