Team Swine Dudes (1991)

The team started in 1989 doing regional endurance events before stepping up to contest the WERA National Endurance Championship in 1990 on a Suzuki Katana 600. In ’91 they ran a Honda CBR600 F2 and it made all the difference. “After racing that Katana, which had no power, I felt almost guilty on the Honda,” Jones recalled. “I could actually pass other bikes on the straightaway for the first time.”

Swine Dudes became one of the leading teams of the WERA National Endurance Series of the early-to-mid 1990s. They earned three class championships and twice finished overall runner up in the championship. Swine Dudes eventually became Team Pearls (due to pressure from sponsors) and the squad moved to the AMA in 1996. In one of the finest performances of the team, Frank Wilson finished first privateer in the 1996 Daytona 200 on a Team Pearls Suzuki, in a field that featured two dozen factory and factory-backed machines.

Taylor went on to become a leading WERA sprint racer in the middleweight classes.

  1. Larry,
This site is great. I’ve had to stop looking at it with my morning coffee because I kept being late for work. Thanks for the memories.

  3. I’m an old friend of the late Frank Wilson. I had a great poster of Frank with Team Peals but have lost it in a move. Do you have any archive photos of Frank?
    Thanks,
