Colin Edwards (1992)

Colin Edwards burst onto the road racing scene in 1991 as a club racing competitor who won a slew of WERA and CCS championships. Edwards went straight into the pro ranks and in his first full season of professional racing won the 1992 AMA 250 Grand Prix Championship. This photo is from the WERA Formula USA event at Road Atlanta that year. Edwards tried racing his Yamaha TZ250 against the big F-USA machines and qualified well, but had bike problems and didn’t finish in the final.

  1. I saw his teammate (Chris D’something) have a great F-USA battle at IRP on his TZ against the big Suzukis of Team Hammer. Might have been the same year, I’m not sure.

  2. That would be Chris D’ Aluisio. Chris was runner up to Colin in the AMA 250 Grand Prix Championship in 1992.

  3. That TZ can be seen in the Barber Museum. OTS, or Oilfield Technology Services, was owned by Erich Klementich, an businessman from the Houston area. His son, Frank, was also a club racer at the time, and a pretty decent one. Erich passed away a few years ago, but Frank is still around and serves as a timing and scoring official for the CMRA.

  4. Good info. It was great o have a sponsor like Erich in the sport. I’m guessing as Colin’s fame has grown so has the importance of that motorcycle.
