Albert Bold club racing a MV Agusta sometime in the early 1980s. My caption on the back of the photo just reads “Albert Bold – Winner, Over 500cc Vintage”. I have no idea where I took this photo. It could have been my one trip to Summit Point way back in 1983 or ’84. I’ve never seen an MV that looked like a stripped down street fighter, but here’s one in my files from way back in the day. As grainy as this photo is I suspect I pushed Tri-X to 1600 or really had to crop way in on the enlarger.

I have an electronic image of that photo, but in color I got off the ‘net somewhere. I remember that bike from when I first started going to the races at Summit. Albert Bold was (still is) a machinist and so many parts on that bike were handmade one-offs. Perhaps you can see the color image at this link:
I think the color photo appeared in Summit Pt Raceway Magazine circa 1984/85 or so. I may still have a copy of that magazine.

Hmm, that’s odd. Now I wonder if this is even my photo. It’s in my box of old photos, but I don’t recall shooting color at Summit back then. Cycle News must mixed in some other people’s photos when the sent photos back to me all those years ago.

I found the issue of Summit Pt magazine I was thinking of, July ’86. Different photo, a shot of that bike in the pits, not on the track.

It looks like Albert’s MV was way ahead of its time. A perfect example of what they call a Street Fighter today.
I wish I knew if I actually took that photo. I’m going to have to break down and some point and poor through my negatives.
Thanks

Hi Guys, I think that was taken by Dean Beasom, a local photographer in that area. I may be able to verify that. He took photos of me when I was racing. He recently passed away. I think this was taken in the back carousel at Summit Point. It’s been a long time. I have some originals of this when I purchased the photo. – Albert
