Arnaiz Leads in the Heartland

Rich Arnaiz, on the No. 20 Commonwealth Honda RC30, leads Steve Crevier (91), Larry Schwarzbach (64), Mike Smith (68) and Freddie Spencer (19) as the group dives into a corner at Heartland Park Topeka during a round of the 1991 AMA Superbike Championship. Arnaiz, a former flat track racer from Stockton, Calif., was racing back in the U.S. in 1991 for Martin Adams’ Commonwealth Honda team after winning the European Superbike Championship in 1990. Heartland Park hosted AMA Superbike races from 1989 to 1991. It again hosted a controversial race in 2009 that was boycotted by several riders, including Mat Mladin, due to safety concerns. The track is not on the 2010 calendar.
