James Stewart powers his Kawasaki KX125 out of a turn during a 125 moto at Steel City in 2004. Stewart was unstoppable that year winning all but one outdoor national that season in the 125cc class. Red Bud was Stewart’s only loss. He was caught up in a first-turn pileup in the second moto causing damage to his bike. He easily won the championship, in what was at the time his second outdoor national title.

I was at the race in Red Bud that year. No one could catch Stewart that day, but in that second moto he was literally ringing the neck of his KX 125 cutting through the pack…well till his clutch gave up on him. One of the best pics I had of him that day was the no hander he pulled over the finish line jump when he won the first moto.

I didn’t know you were into motocross. You’re like a walking encyclopedia when it comes to flat track. Are you like that with MX also?

I can be. I really paid a lot of attention when it came to McGrath, Emig, Larocco, and Carmichael. I used to attend the Troy national, I also went to Red Bud once. Also went to Indy for the SX and the Pontiac SX 3 times. One of my favorite races of all time was Pontiac of 2002 when RC bailed on the second lap, and with a broken visor on his helmet, cut through the pack and came within one turn of winning over Nathan Ramsey. I might be attending Indy in February.
