Pat Moroney (1A) and Colin Breeze (218) battled in the AHRMA 750 Grand Prix class at Daytona in 1991. It was a classic race between America and Britain’s state-of-the-art road racing machines of the late 1960s. Moroney’s Harley-Davidson was actually a bit faster, but Breeze used a brilliant strategy on the final lap of running low on the banking to “take a shorter route” as he said to nip Moroney in a photo finish. This was in the early ’90 when the interest in Vintage racing was at an all-time high and thousands of fans poured into Daytona to watch. Sadly Breeze died racing at the Isle of Man TT in 2004.
