David Emde and Marty Lunde in the Daytona 200 (1981)

A great image of David Emde (56) on the factory Kawasaki, leading Mary Lunde (326), who was also racing a Kawasaki in the 1981 Daytona 200. Emde was a last-minute entry for Kawasaki after Eddie Lawson reportedly begged off racing the big four-stroke KR1000 Formula One machine. Emde stepped in and finished 20th in the 200. Lunde is an interesting story as well. The little I’ve read about him indicates he was American racer, who lived and raced primarily in England. If anyone knows the circumstances that led Lunde to race over there it would be fun to know. (Rich Chenet photo)
