Scott Drake with a Killer Start at the Meadow Lands Half-Mile (1979)

Check out this awesome photo from the Rich Chenet Collection. It’s the Meadows Half-Mile AMA Grand National (just outside of Pittsburgh, PA) from September of 1979. This is the start of the national with Scott Drake (91) getting a great jump leading the pack into the first turn. Right there with Drake on the inside is Billy Labrie (65D). Taking the high line are Terry Poovey (18) and Mike Kidd (72). You can also just see defending series champ Jay Springsteen (1), Lance Jones (23), Ted Boody (12), Steve Morehead (42) and Corky Keener (62). Poovey won the race over Morehead and Springsteen. Just another great image of Rich’s. I wake up every morning enthused to see what else I’ll be able to preserve in his collection. (Rich Chenet photo)
