I love what I call “personality shots” or racing images that show a rider interacting with fellow riders, crew members, family or fans. And this one is right up near the top of any personality shot I’ve come across. It’s Kenny Roberts explaining to friend and fellow racer Randy Mamola something that happened to him or something he saw on the track. And road racers know what Roberts is explaining, the universal motion of a front-end tuck. I told photographer Michael Pons that this photo was so special in my mind that he should save it for someone’s book or something, but he told me to go ahead and share it with all of you.
