Promising young rookie Ricky Johnson posing with his factory-support Yamaha at the 1981 Red Bud Trans-USA in September of 1981. RJ was getting his first taste of racing the 250 MX class in the pro ranks that fall. He’d already showed his amazing potential with a couple of podiums in AMA 125cc Motocross Nationals earlier that summer. He’d go right into the 250 class in his sophomore season. Johnson finished 16th overall after finishing out of the points in the first moto and taking 7th in the second. (Tom Mueller photo)
