Kris Bigelow Leads Pontiac Supercross Heat Race Start (1981)

A heat race start at the Pontiac Supercross in April of 1981 showing Kris Bigelow (54) with the inside line going into the first turn. Also up front are Goat Breker (20), Bob Hannah (100), Dave Coupe (174) and Keith Oelerich (713). Breker passed early leader Bigelow to score the Heat race victory. Hannah finished second. Hannah went on to win Saturday’s main event, the first of a doubleheader weekend at the Silverdome. It marked Hannah’s first AMA Supercross victory since returning from a major water-skiing injury that put him on the sideline for the entire 1980s season. (Rich Chenet photo)
