The front row of the AMA Road Race National at Laguna Seca Raceway in July of 1983. From nearest you have Canadian Miles Baldwin on a Yamaha TZ750, Mike Baldwin (no relation) on his factory-backed Honda RS500, Randy Mamola on his Suzuki RG500 GP bike and Eddie Lawson and Kenny Roberts, both racing the Yamaha OW69 “Daytona Special.” Mamola took the overall victory with a 1-2 in the two-leg event. Mike Baldwin (3-3) and Miles Baldwin (5-4) rounded out the podium finishers. (In a funny note, Roberts, who won the second leg, described racing the OW69 at Laguna like, “Flying an airplane through an outhouse. All you can do is point it.”) (Michael Pons photo)
