Joey Sommers Wins AMA Formula Two Race at Loudon (1984)

Joey Sommers races his Popp’s Cycle Center Yamaha TZ250 to victory in the AMA Formula Two (250 Grand Prix) race at Loudon in June of 1984. Sommers battled with Sam McDonald early in the race before getting up front and then getting a break with traffic and opening a gap on McDonald. In the end the margin of victory was around 15 seconds. Sommers was the fifth different winner in five F2 class events to that point in 1984. (Michael Pons photo)
