Road America AMA Formula One race in 1984 with Johnny Bettencourt (50) on his Honda VF750 leading a group that included Boonie Knott (62) on a Suzuki RG500, Rich Oliver (27) on a Kawasaki KZ1000, William Himmelsbach (44) on a Suzuki RG500, Terry Hampton on a Honda VF750, Glenn LaRock (70), Dr. David Kieffer (91) and a couple of others. The F1 class was in its waning days and in order to bolster the grids the AMA allowed Superbike riders to enter on their bikes. It also gave a place for the old 1000cc Superbikes to race as well. A lot of Superbike riders entered because the purse money for the F1 race was usually a lot higher than in the Superbike race. Interesting times in the series for sure.
