Marco Lucchinelli aboard the factory Ducati F1 Pantah prototype he raced to win the 1986 Daytona Battle of the Twins race. To illustrate how important Daytona’s BOTT was to Cagiva (which owned Ducati at the time), the legendary Dr. Taglioni himself, chief engineer at Ducati flew over from Italy to direct the effort. Cagiva was hoping it’s Ducati team would go one-two with Jimmy Adamo on another prototype, but Jimmy crashed out while battling (and colliding) with Paul Lewis who was on the Cosworth Norton. “Lucky” motored on for the win with Lewis second and Gene Church, on the Harley-Davidson XR1000-based Lucifer’s Hammer third.
