A classic AMA 250 Grand Prix (then called Formula Two) race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in May of 1983 with David Emde (19) in front leading Hugh Humble and Randy Renfrow (26). Emde used a perfect strategy to win the race on a wet-to-drying track by getting up front early, controlling the pace with Humble and Renfrow unable to pass because of a narrow one-line dry lane on the track. In the closing laps Emde quickened the pace and Humble ran off track after slipping off the racing line. The trio ended up finishing in this order at the checkered flag.
