I was happy to come across this print. We were talking about the WERA road race on the infield-oval at the Milwaukee Mile. I talked about Gary Gibson (No. 61) racing his 250GP Honda in the race. The infield circuit was ridiculously bumpy, not super compatible with the stiff suspension setup in the RS250, yet Gibson found himself leading (shown here), although in a battle with Stevie Patterson and Alan Bertagnoli, both on FZR400s. On the last lap Gibson got a little off line and Bertagnoli slipped through to win the race. Gibson was an immensely talent rider, but it goes to show you that sometimes, when the equipment does not match well with the course, even talent is not enough.
