Jeff Ward Out Front at RedBud (1987)

Rider Files is looking forward to going to RedBud this weekend. Here’s a classic Throwback to RedBud ’87. It’s the start of the first 500cc moto with Jeff Ward (3) out front on his factory Kawasaki. Giving chase are Jeff Stanton (56), Rick Johnson (2) and Jeff Hicks (33). You can also see Michigan’s own Mark McLaren on the #60 in the background. Johnson won both motos to earn the overall ahead of Stanton (3-2) and Ross Pederson (5-3). Wardy was riding hurt after a big crash in practice. He ended up crashing and suffering a DNF in the second moto, ultimately finishing 9th with a (2-DNF). (Kinney Jones photo)
