Jim Rice and Ted Newton at the Charity Newsies (1971)

Jim Rice (2) on his BSA, has the inside line on Triumph mounted Ted Newton (2E) at the Charity Newsies in Columbus, Ohio, in June of 1971. Both riders broad sliding, feet up. Rice led the race early and eventually finished 5th, and Newton took 6th. I believe this was Newton’s first AMA Grand National finish. Check out the badly peppered number plate on Newton’s bike.
