Billy Payne talking with his crew after the Chaparral 125/250 Pro Shootout at Glen Helen Raceway in December of 1999. Payne was an interesting story in that he was a blazing fast amateur, got a top-notch ride when he turned pro and then struggled with injury after injury and never was able to reach his potential and was out of the sport after a couple of seasons. But after sitting on the sidelines for six years he came back in 2008, raced with Team SVM Honda and scored five top-10 finishes in 125 East Supercross and matched his career-best ranking of 10th in the series.
