Dave Palmer Serious about his Start at San Gabriel Valley Raceway (1966)

Dave Palmer (No. 63) seems hellbent on getting the holeshot in this photo from a TT race at San Gabriel Valley Raceway in October of 1966. And it’s no wonder when you realize Palmer was up against TT racing legends like Skip Van Leeuwen (No. 59), Bob Bailey (No. 33) and Dick Hammer (No. 16). San Gabriel Valley Raceway was a half-mile car racing oval, and motorcycle TT races there used the paved front straight and then dove into the dirt TT track build in the infield. Motorcycle races were short lived there. I could only find stories on the track from the 1966 season, the first full year after the facility was built. (James Brammer photo)
