Doug Polen and Scott Gray Battle for Suzuki Money (1986)

Doug Polen (No. 296) and Scott Gray (57) do battle in WERA sprint racing action on their Suzuki GSX-R750s at Roebling Road Raceway, near Savannah, Georgia, in March of 1986, gunning for Suzuki contingency dollars. Polen was far enough away from home in Texan, but Gray was literally all the way on the other side of the country from his home in Santa Rosa, California. I can only imagine Gray was hitting the race on the way to Daytona that year. I believe Polen and Gray finished third and fourth, upset by WERA Southeast Region fast men Mike Harth and Ron Ewerth. 1. Two great racers. I could only finish ahead of them if they broke or crashed. They crashed rarely. Except Polen who threw it away in front of me on my 10th of mile dirt track. Devin Battley
