Marty Tripes has a mile-wide smile as he’s interviewed by ABC’s Wide World of Sports personality Jim Lampley after Tripes won the 1978 Daytona Supercross. Tripes led a factory Honda sweep at Daytona that year, finishing ahead of his red rider teammates Marty Smith and Jim Ellis. Being on national TV was a huge deal in those days and Honda came loaded to the hilt. They came with a juggernaut squad featuring Tripes, Smith, Ellis, Jim Pomeroy, Tommy Croft and Warren Reid. They rode MX bikes that were cleverly disguised to appeared to be production CR250R machines, but were in fact true works machines internally, designed to win at Daytona. And win they did. 📷Gary Van Voorhis #martytripes#jimlampley#wideworldofsports#honda#hondamx#supercross#daytonasupercross#daytonainternationalspeedway#abcsports#workshonda
