Hot Grattan

Grattan Raceway always produced some great racing as this photo shows. It’s Scott Zampach leading Dave Barnard and Jeff Harder in the Michigan Grand Prix. Zampach and Barnard were Grattan regulars, but Harder came up from the South Central Region to mix it up with the North Central Region riders with good success. The Michigan Grand Prix was a series held exclusively at Grattan and was a money-paying race. You could run any machine in the class. While you mainly saw production-based bikes racing, sometimes riders would show up with ex-GP machinery.

  1. I raced at Grattan in the 80’s, what a fun race track. Only place I ever raced we would race the track backwards a couple of times a year. It was 9 hours from my house and worth every minute of it!

  2. Grattan was a beautiful track though I only raced it once (1987 I think). And because of the distance (15 hours) and vehicle issues I only got to ride Sunday…did poorly.
