This photo is from the 1987 Transatlantic Match Races, the series that pitted many of the best British road racers against some of America’s  top guns. This year was famous for the Wayne Rainey vs. Kevin Schwantz battle that carried on in AMA Superbike and later in Grand Prix racing, but this photo is from other top riders in the event that year. This photo shows Doug Polen (23), Keith Huewen (16), Trevor Nation (5) and Michel Mercier (36) battling it out, probably somewhere inside the top five. AMA rider Polen (5th) ended up being the top scorer of this group, followed closely by fellow AMA Superbike racer Mercier (6th), and BSB stars Nation (7th) and Huewen (9th).
