Chuck Sorensen (90) on the Team Stargel Aprilia, leads Jason DiSalvo (40) in an epic AMA 250 Grand Prix race at Road Atlanta in May of 2002. What I especially love about this photo is that it was a meeting of two different generations of riders. At this point Sorensen, who would turn 30 later that summer, was a 10-year AMA Pro Racing veteran and had already twice won the AMA 250 Grand Prix Championship. DiSalvo was a teenage racing prodigy coached by Freddie Spencer who was in his first full season of AMA Pro Racing. Sorensen held off the young DiSalvo by 0.8 seconds to win the race. Sorensen went on to win five rounds that year and beat the rapidly rising DiSalvo to earn his third championship.
