Ed on an EX500

Ed Key races a Kawasaki EX500 though the carousel at Indianapolis Raceway Park during a WERA sprint race in October of 1987. Kawasaki was paying decent contingency money in WERA D Production, which led a number of top club racers to compete in the class that year. In this race Key finished second to fellow Wisconsin racer Andy Fenwick. Stevie Patterson was third on a Yamaha RZ350. This photo is part of the excellent Greg Sickmeier Collection.

  1. Until I saw the picture I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that I had never even rode an EX500 let alone raced one. I must be getting old as I have no recollection of that bike. I wonder who owned it?

  2. Ed was fast, smooth and consistent no matter what track, the conditions, what bike he was on or who he was racing against. And he won a LOT of races. He and his wife, Barb, were/are good people too. Only the best could race with Ed.
